What we do
Navigating the Landscape of Government Programs
At Brookston Consulting Group, we assist clients in navigating federal and Alberta-based grant programs through specialized claims and communication channels. Our approach operates on a third-party basis, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and maximizing effectiveness.
Why Does This Distinction Matter?
Under the Lobbying Act, any individual communicating on behalf of a client is classified as a “lobbyist” and must register accordingly. This ensures compliance with the law and transparency in interactions with public officials.
- Free and open access to government is a matter of public interest.
- Lobbying public office holders is a legitimate and recognized activity.
- Public officials and the public should know who is engaged in lobbying efforts.
- Registration of lobbyists must not hinder free and open access to government
The Lobbying Act is based on four key principles
While Brookston Consulting Group conducts lobbying activities on behalf of our clients, we position ourselves as facilitators rather than lobbyists in the traditional sense.
What Constitutes Lobbying at Brookston Consulting Group?
For us, lobbying primarily involves:
- Supporting grant applications, non-repayable contributions, and other funding-related matters.
- Communicating directly or indirectly with federal or provincial public office holders.
- Addressing policies or programs, whether in development or requiring amendments.
Public office holders include nearly all federal government employees, Members of the House of Commons and their staff, as well as Members of the Senate and their staff.
Our goal is to simplify this complex process while maintaining full compliance and transparency, ensuring our clients’ interests are effectively represented.
